Cloud communications startup Solutions Infini merges with Italy’s Ubiquity under brand ‘Kaleyra’
Solutions Infini, a city based business cloud communications
startup today announced its merger with Italian messaging platform Ubiquity
, which is also a strategic investor in the startup. Following the merger, the entity has changed the brand name to ‘Kaleyra’ and made changes in its top management.
Dario Calogero, Ubiquity’s founder, chairman and CEO is now Kaleyra’s Group CEO, while Solutions Infini’s founders Aniketh Jain and Ashish Agarwal have also been designated with new executive roles. Jain will lead Kaleyra’s global cloud business as Managing Director and Agarwal will be Kaleyra’s Chief Technology Officer.
“Kaleyra, as a new identity stands to represent the very root of us being a global Communication Platform service provider. We are leaders in two areas of communication services-the BFSI sector where we have the on-premise solutions and private cloud, and then for other enterprises, we have the cloud based platform which is reliable and easier to scale. We’re already one among the world’s top 6 players,” said Dario Calogero, Group CEO – Kaleyra.
In October 2016, Ubiquity acquired 51% stake in Solutions Infini for an undisclosed amount, and recently it further raised the stake to 70% with the Indian founders picking up minor stakes in Kaleyra group, pending RBI approval. The Department of Telecommunication (DoT
) gave the regulatory approval for this merger in January this year, paving the way for the initiation of all the legal formalities for a unified new business entity and branding.
The combined turnover for Solutions Infini and Ubiquity was €65 million in 2017; however now as brand Kaleyra, it is aiming around the €100 million mark during this fiscal with new market expansions and increasing its customers.
“We are also looking at expanding our base in APAC, European Union, Middle East and the United States new markets and more number of customers,” added Calogero.
“The rebranding marks a significant step in the company’s growth as we are now redefining ourselves as an evolving global cloud communications platform,” said Aniketh Jain, MD – Cloud business, Kaleyra.
“In 2017, Solutions Infini posted $35 million in revenue with a strong customer base of 8000 companies of which 90% are Indian firms ranging from mid to large size enterprises and businesses,” informed Jain. E-commerce, logistics, marketplace are among the key verticals of Solutions Infini and some of its customers include Flipkart, Zoho, Swiggy, Ola and others.
Although Kaleyra is eyeing global markets, but it does face a strong competition from Ozontel, Knowlarity, Exotel and others cloud telephony companies in India. Kaleyra’s CTO Ashish Agarwal, however, commented that most of them are serving the small and medium businesses with smaller ticket sizes.
“Our platform offers two way messaging platform catering to mid to large and very large size enterprises that requires scalability along multiple communication channels like bridge calls, voice calling, OTPs, emails and SMS based push notifications
, chat bots and more,” said Agarwal.
“Our focus now would be towards making our product more compatible for global companies and the ever evolving cloud platform. Our aim is to become a multi-channel platform catering to a diverse set of audience is now at the forefront of what we do. We aim at building a product that can be seamlessly used by enterprises, startups and developers,” he further added.
Kaleyra offers cloud based integrated and multi-channel communication services globally that includes messages; push notifications, e-mails, voice services and chatbot. Using its in-house built technology architecture, it claimed to manage massive volumes of messages, with 2 billion plus notifications every month.In next 8-10 months, Kaleyra will be launching its unified communication product.
The services are offered over public and private cloud. Kaleyra has partnered major public cloud providers, namely AWS
and Google Cloud Platform
, and uses Nutanix’s hyperconverged infrastructure for private cloud based services, informed Agarwal.
